How number plates work
The new UK registration plates have 3 parts to it. the first part is the
'Local Identifier'
This is the first 2 letters, and these give the location where the vehicle was first registered. The table below shows all the identifiers.
The next part is the Year of Registration. There are 2 periods of registration each year, starting 1st March and 1st September. The first number represents which period the vehicle was registered. The number can be either 0 or 5, 0 for the first period and 5 for the second period. The second number is the Year of registration. For example the
above plate was registered between 1st March and 31st August 2003 Now we are past 1st Jan 2010 the first digit will change to 1 or 6.
The Last 3 digits are random and make the registration number unique. Home - About -Categories -
